chai hui talked about giving chocolates..
wondered how valentine's day came about? (:

well,

there're a few versions.. but the first one goes like this...

about 1,700 years ago,
the Roman Emperor Claudius II forbade young men from marrying. Why? Because during that time, the Roman Empire was at war, but the men refused to leave their wives, families and sweethearts to go and fight. So the angry Emperor declared that no more marriages were to be performed.

however, a young priest named Valentine felt sorry for these couples. and disobeying the Emperor's orders, married them secretly. But he was found out soon and thrown into jail. He was executed on Febuary 14. More than 200 years later, Pope Gelasius I declared Febuary 14 St. Valentine's Day.
